Made for the way you work
Auto mode, tuned by you
Let the editor help choose the model, while keeping your own preferences in the decision.
In practice
A useful place to start
Keep fast models available for routine work and describe which ones you trust for complex changes. Auto uses your model guidance when choosing a main chat or an unpinned subagent.
Match the task
Auto uses a helper model to select among ready models based on the work and the model descriptions. It can make choices for main chats, side threads, and unpinned subagents.
Teach it your preferences
Change personal skill ratings and model descriptions. Use Auto Agent Selection to exclude models from Auto or set a preferred skill range, while keeping those models available for manual selection.
Keep manual control
Choose a specific model whenever you want a predictable choice. Auto model selection is separate from Autopilot, which can act on questions and follow-up decisions in a chat.
Get started
Choose Auto in the chat model picker. Open Models to edit ratings and descriptions, then Auto Agent Selection to adjust the candidate list.
Good to know
Auto is a choice aid, not a guarantee of the cheapest or best answer. If your filters leave no candidates, it uses its normal candidate list. Provider use and helper requests can incur charges.
